Poissant Wins First Place in Chapbook Contest

March 2012

photoDavid James Poissant has been announced as the winner of the 2011 RopeWalk Press Editor's Fiction Chapbook Prize. Lizard Man, published this year by RopeWalk Press, received praise from Pulitzer-finalist Lee Martin and Frank O'Connor Award winner and PEN/Faulkner-finalist Ron Rash. The chapbook will be featured in an interview in the American Literary Review, a biannual journal that has been continuously published since 1990, later this Spring.

English M.F.A. Students to Present at USF's First Creative Writing Symposium

English M.F.A. students, Kirsten Holt and Leslie Salas, have been invited to present at Blank Pages, USF's first creative writing symposium, on Friday, February 10. The symposium, a celebration of the written word, will take place over two days on February 9-10.

UCF English Lit Majors Take Top Prizes in (Inter)National Jane Austen Essay Contest

August 2011

photoTwo UCF English majors—Faith Dickens and Hillary Casavant—have taken top prizes in the annual Jane Austen Society of North America (JASNA) essay contest. Faith Dickens won first prize in the undergraduate division for her essay entitled "Whims of the Wealthy: Marriage and Desire for Sense and Sensibility's Miss Grey." Hillary Casavant took second prize for the "Romance and Riches: The Necessity of Wealth in Sense and Sensibility."

Atkins Foundation gives to technical communication scholarship

photoThe Atkins Foundation, Inc., has awarded a grant of $3,000 to the UCF Foundation, Inc. in support of the STC-UCF Melissa Pellegrin Memorial Scholarship, an endowment established by the Orlando Chapter of the Society for Technical Communication. The STC endowment is managed by the philanthropic arm of the University of Central Florida, the UCF Foundation, Inc., in coordination with Orlando STC leadership.
