Our MFA offers concentrations in four tracks: fiction, poetry, creative nonfiction, and scriptwriting. The program requires completion of a creative thesis and features small, rigorous workshops and seminars. Each year, in addition to the traditional workshops in short fiction, creative nonfiction, poetry, and scriptwriting, we make available special topics courses, such as Novel Writing and Creative Writing in the Community. Though focused on English-language texts, writings from a vast range of languages and cultural traditions are also studied in translation. The program requires course work in research methods, literary criticism, and linguistics. The remainders of the core courses are intensive seminars which concentrate on English-language texts.
