The Department of English at the University of Central Florida houses three graduate degree programs and a graduate certificate program: the interdisciplinary Ph.D. in Texts and Technology, the M.F.A. in Creative Writing, the M.A. in English, with concentrations in Literary, Cultural, and Textual Studies and Technical Communication. The department is home to over forty graduate faculty whose specializations range from digital rhetoric to sociolinguistics, from creative nonfiction to Native American literature, from Samuel Richardson to Eudora Welty, and whose recent publications include such diverse titles as: Race, Class, and Gender in "Medieval" Cinema (Palgrave Macmillan), Critical Power Tools: Technical Communication and Cultural Studies (SUNY Press), Farther Afield in the Study of Nature Oriented Literature (University Press of Virginia),The Society of S (Simon & Schuster), Lowering the Boom: Critical Studies in Film Sound (University of Illinois Press), and Problem Novels: Victorian Fiction Theorizes the Sensational Self (Ohio State University Press).

The department is committed to offering our graduate students rigorous academic training and professionalization through small seminar and workshop classes, internships, and one-on-one mentoring. Graduate classes in the Department of English are scheduled in evenings and online to accommodate students’ schedules. Many of our students receive financial support through teaching and other assistantships.
