Anne Bonny and Mary Read The Early Caribbean Society was founded at the reception hosted by the Society of Early Americanists (SEA) at the annual meeting of the American Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies (ASECS) at the Broadmoor Hotel, Colorado Springs, on Saturday, April 6, 2002. The Society aims to promote the historical, literary, and cultural study of the Caribbean region from the period of the earliest records through the nineteenth century. It aims to serve as a conduit of information among its members, to promote the study of and scholarly conversations about the Early Caribbean, and to ensure that the study of the Early Caribbean is represented at relevant conferences, including ASECS, SEA, the Caribbean Studies Association (CSA), the Islands In Between Conference on Eastern Caribbean Cultures, and the Omohundro Institute for Early American History and Culture (OIEAHC).
