How does the English department arrange advising?

All English majors are assigned a faculty advisor who teaches in their declared track. The Undergraduate Advising Coordinator, Pat Angley, is also available to all majors, regardless of track preference.

Who is my advisor?

Contact Sharon Body for advisor assignments or to schedule an advising appointment with the Undergraduate Advising Coordinator.

What should I do before I meet with my advisor?

• Print your audit from MyUCF.
• Write out any questions before your meeting.

How can I get the most from my undergraduate experience in the English department?

• Read the UCF catalog and pay careful attention to major-related requirements.
• Decide upon a track—technical writing, creative writing, or literature.
• Contact Sharon Body regarding your advisor assignment.
• Contact your assigned advisor during his or her office hours or schedule an appointment to discuss your
plan of study.
• Focus on completing prerequisites and required courses first.
• Participate in English Department activities.
• Visit the Career Resource Center (CRC).

How can I find out about course offerings?

Both Word and pdf files of course descriptions, diversity courses, and pre-1865 literary historical courses for each semester are available on the department home page.

What requirements must I complete in order to graduate?

• Meet the General Education Program (GEP) requirements.
• Satisfy the CLAST requirement.
• Complete the required course work for your specific course track according to your catalog year.
• Satisfy both UCF’s and the department’s foreign language requirement.
• Complete 120 semester hours of college course work of which 48 hours are upper level courses ( 3 or 4000 level).
• Pay attention to any summer hours you might need.
• Complete the last 30 of 36 hours in residency at UCF.
• Earn at least a 2.0 GPA in English courses as well as a 2.0 cumulate UCF GPA.

What is CAHSA?

CAHSA stands for the College of Arts and Humanities Student Advising Office. It is the central advising area for all departments in the College of Arts and Humanities.
